Secretary's Message

Hon. Shri. Sanjeev Shankarrao Gadhave,
Secretary,
Khandala Vibhag Shikshan Samiti, Khandala

The basic motivation behind the educational work of this institute was the independence of our country. With the intention that our students should get the facilities of secondary education at their own village, Vinayakarao Gurav, Sayajirao Autade and their colleagues with some villagers started Rajendra Vidyalaya, Khandala in the year 1951.At that time, these social reformers honored Indian democracy by giving the name of Rajendraprasad, the first President of India, to the school. At the beginning, due to the lack of government educational grant, it became difficult for the villagers to continue the school for the next year. The mill workers from this region working in Mumbai came forward and strongly supported this educational work and registered the organization as "Khandala Vibhag Shikshan Samiti Khandala" in 1954, under the Institution’s Act 1860. In the year 1960 the institute was registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.

These mill workers took a valuable initiative of raising funds to sustain the Institute by collecting 25 paise every month from each worker. And they devoted life and money to develop one of the well-known and transparent management. Hon. Shri. Krishna Hari Raut worked as the President of Institution for the period of 1954-1962. Hon. Shri Kisan Mahadev Veer, Veteran freedom fighter worked as a President of the Institution for the period of 1962 - 1979. Hon. Shri. Prataprao Baburao Bhosale, the former Cabinet Minister of Maharashtra and former Member of Parliament, has been working as the President of Khandala Vibhag Shikshan Samiti from 1979.

Hon. Shri Shankarrao Dajiba Gadhave as a teacher, head master of the high-school and the Secretary of this institution and honored as a "Adarsha Shikshak" by Government of Maharashtra provided very honest social service through Khandala Vibhag Shikshan Samiti. He also contributed to Zilla Parishad, Satara as a Vice-President. In 1965 when he accepted the responsibility as a Secretary of the Institution, there was only one high-school "Rajendra Vidyalaya " under this Institution. He always used to feel that there should be quality education facility for the students especially for OBC and NT categories in and around Khandala panchkroshi. Therefore, he started many schools and Junior colleges in Khandala tahasil and three schools in Satara tahasil. He also made his honest attempt to maintain the quality of education.

Hon. Shri Shankarrao Gadhave has been working as a Vice President of the Institution. Nowadays, the institute is running with one senior college, Seven Junior colleges, and twelve high schools including English medium schools, one Agriculture Diploma College and Vocational courses.

The sapling of knowledge planted at the beginning has turned into a huge banyan tree today. The Institute has made a huge progress owing to the dynamic leadership provided by the President, Vice-President and directors of Khandala Vibhag Shikshan Samiti,Khandala.

The motto of our institution is "Kin Kin Na Sadhayati Kalpalatev Vidya".

As a teacher Hon. Shrimati Sushila Shankarrao Gadhave former member of Satara Zilla Parishad provided a long term knowledge service in this institution. During her service she was honored with "Ahilyabai Holkar" award by Zilla Parishad Satara. She also received a special award for educational and social work from Hon.Sadiq Ali, Governor of Maharashtra State. Up to year 2005 there was no other means of undergraduate education for the boys and girls in and around Khandala panchkroshi. It was highly impossible and not affordable financially for the girl students to take undergraduate education outside. So she forcefully put her demand before Khandala Vibhag Shikshan Samiti for establishing senior college. The people of this region supported strongly to her vision of higher education. As a result senior college in the name of "Rajendra Mahavidyalaya, Khandala " commenced from the year 2007 on permanent non-grant basis.

The college is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur running with B.A. , B.Com., B.Sc. and BCA courses. After her demise, by considering her social and educational work,'Rajendra Mahavidyalaya, Khandala’ has been renamed as Sushila Shankarrao Gadhave Mahavidyalaya, Khandala from June 2019. The college is working in hilly area of Khandala panchkroshi. The Institute has also made available distance education centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik.

At present, the college is providing facilities of degree education in English, Hindi, Economics, Geography and History under Arts faculty and also degree education in Chemistry and Mathematics under Science faculty. The college has also excellent Support services in the form of Library, Science laboratories, playground, parking, sport facilities, N.C.C. and N.S.S. etc. Currently, the college provides along with degree education short term courses, cultural activities, Shivaji University student's welfare funds, etc.
